Zoom Virtual Club Night Meeting 10th June 7-30pm

by Robert Neil McLeod

Zoom virtual MASC North West Area meeting 10th June 7-30pm.
As a virtual zoom club night is a first for us and as with normal club nights which are always very busy with many conversations going on at once, this night will be somewhat different. It is not possible on Zoom for more than one person to talk at a time, so until the internet and Zoom find a way of having a virtual meeting to take the format of an ordinary club night. we will give it a try and have some fun.
I have made an agenda of a few items and events that may or may not be happening in the next few months, and I will go through them then anyone that has a question or a suggestion will have chance to speak after , in other wards very much like club night .
If anything it will just be very good chance to just see all your faces again and so if you feel like joining in this virtual meeting the link is https://us04web.zoom.us/j/78294104793?pwd=Tzl0aEQ3cUJHRWpRRU9XdFI0b1FaQT09
ID 782 9410 4793
Password 5UOPcd
Agenda items
(1) Drive It Day that we did not have, Fraser paid £100.00 deposit. Hopefully this run can take place as soon as we have the all clear and the pubs are open.
(2) The Cairndale Hotel Dumfries 11th to 14th September 2020, They are opening in August Shelley has spoken to the hotel yesterday and they have said they will be doing everything possible to make our stay with them as safe as possible and being a large hotel it should not be a problem. So if you would like to consider going and have not yet given us your names please do so ASAP
(3) NEC Classic Car Show 13th to 15th November ???
(4) Tatton Park, this is the latest update – I will be submitting our club entry just in case it is still ongoing, then you can decide near the time if you still wish to take up your place. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to hold this event on Saturday 15 August to Sunday 16 August 2020. It will now merge with its sister show, Passion for Power creating one mega car show.
(5) Christmas Lunch @ the Mere Golf Hotel, after last year we did have a meeting with the management and they assured us of doing everything needed to make sizing of food portions a lot more realistic !!! Shelley will be phoning them soon to confirm a date for the lunch we hope to discuss this during our Zoom meeting. As we are holding the MG Midget 60th there we do feel we need to give them another chance as this will help to give us and indication that they have got it right for our major event in June 2021.
(6) MG Midget 60th
(7) AGM October 2020 as yet we do not know if the committee will be holding this meeting or where it might be held.

We look forward to seeing you.
Neil & Shelley.

MASC Wiltshire – we’re still here! (June 2020 MASC website mail)

Hello all Wiltshire Spridgetters

I hope you are all doing well, keeping fit and enjoying this extended period of enforced relaxation. I know for many of you, sitting in the sun doing nothing is unnatural and frustrating, but I bet you’ve found plenty to do. All through April and May, the time of year when it all starts happening in a normal year, and my diary fills up with events and meetings, country drives and motor racing, we stayed at home, as everything was off. I’ve really missed our happy Spridget group, and our meets at The Barge. It hasn’t helped that I received the dreaded letter from my doctor, and told I shouldn’t go out at all until 8th July at least. I’m going to stick to that, to be safe.

For those who are working eagerly on their Sprites or Midgets, how are you finding it? I’ve heard from some people that major projects have been attempted, and some even completed, but quite a few others, despite their weeks of confinement, have still found themselves prevaricating and reluctant to get out there in the workshop and make progress on their car. If you are in either of these places please let me know, I’d love to hear and help in any way I can, from home!

Please write too, with any reminiscences and lessons from your past Sprite and Midget ownership, and reflect on some of the fun you’ve had over the years with your cars. Who’s had their car the longest? Who’s had an unforgettable adventure in theirs? Send me your oldest pictures too, if you like! Especially with embarrassing clothes or haircuts!

So, won’t be long now. Check the tyres. Keep it nicely oiled and polished. Brush out the cobwebs and spiders. Keep the brakes free, and don’t let the clutch plate stick. We still have plenty to look forward to, as well as getting those wheels rolling too, just as soon as it’s safe. No Barge meet again this month, but who knows if the end of July or August might see some drift back to normality.

In the meantime, my best wishes to all our Spridget family, and your families and friends at home too. Please get in touch if you need a chat, by phone email or whatever. See you soon!

Andy

Moss Manchester Click & Collect service

by Robert Neil McLeod

Hi All.

Bernie has asked me to let you know the following — Members may already be aware of this, but Moss Manchester are doing a click and collect service.

You can call them on 0161 480 6402, order your stuff, pay by card and tell them approximately what time you will arrive.
They have a collection point at the back of the building, where they will leave your items for collection. When you arrive, call them
to let them know you are there and you can collect your stuff.
I got some items this morning and it works very well.

Best regards.
Bernie.

Still in lockdown but keeping in good spirit

by Robert Neil McLeod

Hi All.

Well still in lockdown but keeping our spirits  up and looking forward to getting back together and catch up on the runs and events we have missed this year so far.

I sent a message to Rupert at Gawsworth Hall , to wish him well and sorry we where unable to attend his classic car show but we would be back next year , he replied saying, he was ok and keeping well and sends his best wishes to all our club members. There was also the Prestsatyn Classic Show this weekend , they are having a online show, were you are invited to send a photo of your car that would have been there.

I have also had a request from someone that is rebuilding  a standard 58 frogeye and he is in need of a 9 stud windscreen, you don’t know of anyone with one for sale do you, as he want to keep it as original as possible. Anyone got one they no longer need ???.

Hope everyone is keeping well , I have been giving some thought to trying to set up a Zoom virtual meeting for what would be our June club night on the  10th June at 7-30 , once I have worked out the rules of engagement I will be back in touch with the ID number and password, if you would like to try and take part , it may be just a bit of fun or chaos.

In the meantime take care and stay safe.

Neil & Shelley

Touching Base during lockdown

by Robert Neil McLeod

Hello All.

Again we will be missing our club night on the 13th May at the Kilton, we can only hope when the all clear is sounded we will still have some good weather as it has been this last six weeks and it is a long time since I can remember the early part of the year being this good.

Today being VE day we would have been at Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show ,  I expect the regulars that have attended this show in the past and it is one of our clubs favourite venues will be missing meeting up over there bacon butties on the go  (Thank you Janet and Paul !!!)  However, because of the “Virus ” we cant be so we can look forward all the more to when we can go !

Shelley and I are still hoping to get our weekend at the Cairndale Hotel in  Dumfries 11th -14th September 2020.  There is still time if we have the all clear before these dates to put you on the provisional list if you are not already there! The more the merrier!  In the meantime take care and be safe, and looking forward to seeing you all as soon as possible.

Cheers

Best wishes from Shelley and Neil

MASC Northamtonshire Drive It Day 2020

by Andrew Parrott

Hello everyone

I hope you are all safe and well.

Today (Sunday 26th April 2020) is Drive It Day and in normal circumstances I would be looking forward to a run out in our cars. We had planned to visit Hughenden Manor, a National Trust property near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. I had decided on a start point and had a rough route planned out. Sadly we’re all stuck at home for the foreseeable future but I hope we can re-schedule this event for later in the year when restrictions are eased.

A number of people in MASC are supporting ‘Driveway Day’ as an alternative this year so please send me a photo of you and your car on your driveway so that I can incorporate this into our monthly report for inclusion in the next issue of MASCOT.

I’d also like words and pictures of anything Spridgetly you have done over the past few weeks. Maybe you’ve been tackling a job you’ve been putting off for a while or carrying out regular maintenance so that you car is ready to go once we’re finally released back into the wild.

I’ve been rebuilding Mungo’s engine but I would much rather talk about your exploits than bang on about what I’ve been doing once again. So please don’t be shy and show off your car in the lovely weather.

Best wishes

Andrew

Not Drive it Day !! but Driveway Day Sunday26th April

by Robert Neil McLeod

Hi All.

MASC chairman Mark Hall sent out this message as below on the club Facebook page,  so I thought for those that might not see on this media I would send it out to our North West area members. I think it is a nice idea and Shelley & I will be donating to Air Ambulance a worthy course, we never hope to have need of, but they do a fantastic job all from charity donations.

We hope you are all keeping well and keep polishing. Neil

Message from Mark Hall MASC club chairman.

To all my friends with classic cars in your garages. This Sunday is the annual national drive it day, but as we cant go anywhere a friend has had a great idea and shared this on our car club group page.
“Hi there. As this Sunday was to be Drive It Day, how about getting our cars out onto our drives and call it “Driveway Day”. We could make it a national static rally!”
One of the clubs areas are also going to donate the money they would have spent on petrol to charity. So even if your car doesn’t run push it on the drive post a picture for everyone to see and give your petrol money to a charity 🙂
I am donating mine to Rennie Grove Hospice Care, but pick your own charity.
