It’s the end of August already..!

by Mark T Boldry

Dear All..

Anita and I were hoping that by now, we would have been able to have our monthly meetings back on track… Instead, we are (hopefully) enjoying our Spridgets on a regular basis, albeit out on our own.

I’m sure you’ve all received your latest copy of MASCOT and will have, by now, read it from cover to cover… If, like me, you were disappointed to read the Club’s stance on events and meetings, but with a note to say that the FBHVC have amended their advice you are now totally confused with the information being given.

https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/news/article/coronavirus

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distancing/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distancing-after-4-july

A few Saturdays ago, Anita and I went along to a small gathering organised by another Club that we are members of (Retrotorque) at a lovely local Pub that has had a Motoring connection for decades… This prompted a thought….

A meeting of those who would like to come along, held outside in their huge car park with Government Social Distancing Guidelines adhered to… The Pub itself will serve food (from a limited but excellent menu) and drinks to your table should you choose to eat or have a drink…
We could even combine this with a short scenic run …

What are your thoughts..?

Thank you to those who have written short articles and have sent them to Neil (our MASCOT editor), he’s very keen to receive anything you wish to submit but it may not get immediate inclusion in the magazine.

You’ll all no doubt be aware that next year it’s 60 years since the Mk1 Midget was launched (and of course the Mk2 Sprite). With this in mind, the North West Area of MASC are hosting the Anniversary Celebrations which are to be held at ‘The Mere’ in Knutsford, Cheshire over the weekend of 25th – 27th June 2021. For more details and booking information, have a look at the website..: www.midgetandspriteclub.com

I know many home projects are in progress and hope that we’ll see more Midgets and Sprites gracing Yorkshires spectacular roads in the not too distant future… I’m about to embark on the major task of restoring the body of GAN101, I know it’ll be a challenge as I want to preserve as much of the original car as possible without making the task impossible.. Once I get going, I’ll record the progress in pictures .

Many years ago, Anita and I used the MG Enthusiasts BBS on their Midget and Sprite General or Technical pages for all our communications, we stopped using it as I felt that Facebook has so much more to offer… However, I’ve recently re-visited the BBS and I have to say, it’s still VERY active.. It’s full of enthusiasm and interesting technical Q&As.. Well worth a visit.

MASC Somerset Area Rep

by Andrew Parrott

Message from Colin Chorley:

Hello Somerset Mascateers.  I hope you are coping as well as can be expected.

There’s still not much happening on the social side. A few events are getting going again, but without much notice to organise attendance. A few of us locally have managed to get together, and that has gone down well. It would be nice to include more members, this would mean finding suitable venues where we can meet safely. Any ideas gratefully received!

The Midget and Sprite Club now has an Area Liaison Officer. Andrew Parrott has contacted me concerned that Somerset has no Area Rep. As some of you know, when our Rep left the club a couple of years ago I agreed to act as a contact between  members to stop us drifting apart. A group of us have stayed close, but we really need a Rep to cover everyone. I don’t feel that I could do the Reps role justice so I am appealing to the members for someone to put themselves forward. I am assured it is not a taxing role, knowing your way around a computer, and being able to organise a small group is all. (I can t organise my own life, and computers scare me!) I am sure Andrew would be glad to hear from any volunteers. It is not an elected role.

If anyone does fancy the role, can you please copy me as well as Andrew so I know what is happening.

Happy Spridgeting.

Colin.

Good Morning All.

As we are now allowed to meet at an outside venue there may be still time to get your free entry ticket (car & driver) to Oulton Park Gold Cup Event over this next weekend Bank Holiday. To obtain your ticket go to MSV Gold Cup Clubs section – Midget & Sprite Club, we still have some places left, register your car if you have not been before , when your car has been approved you can then print your E-ticket weekend pass or just for any day. I will be there Sunday & Monday.

Second MASC Northamptonshire get together in Dingley, Thursday 3rd September 2020

by Andrew Parrott

Hello

As our little soirée at Bruce’s place in Dingley the other evening went well we thought we’d have another one. This time, to make use of the available daylight, we will start earlier and you can arrive when you are able. Bruce has kindly offered the use of a gas BBQ so that, if you wish, you can cook what you’ve brought with you or run over on the way there!

The venue will be available from 3pm on Thursday 3rd September and the idea is that you get there when you can and stay for as long as you want. As before, there are toilets on site which are intended for gentlemen but I’m sure we can all make do and share! There will also be hand gel available for general use.

Apart from the date and the earlier start time details of the event are the same as before which are as follows:

When: Thursday, 3rd 2020 from 3pm. PRE-BOOKED ATTENDEES ONLY.

Where: Dingley near Market Harborough. Address details to be supplied with booking confirmation.

What: Please bring anything you want to eat and drink and something to sit on.

Should you wish to attend you do so on the understanding that it is your responsibility to adhere to the current government guidelines and neither I, Bruce or the Midget and Sprite Club are responsible for your attendance at the meeting.

I very much hope that you will be able to join us but I fully understand if you’re not quite ready. If you do plan to attend you must let me know so that I can give you directions and get an accurate idea of numbers.

Best wishes

MASC Northamptonshire monthly meeting

Hello

We’ll be meeting via Zoom again this month but this time we will be using one of the club’s Zoom accounts so there will be no time limit on our meeting.

The meeting will start at 8pm this Thursday (20th August 2020) and will run for at least an hour. Feel free to drop in and out as suits you.

Details for the meeting are as follows:

Join Zoom Meeting

https://zoom.us/j/94126027296?pwd=YnpFclFNeldkc1lkeWlqVmZlNVZoQT09

Meeting ID: 941 2602 7296

Passcode: 841753

It would be great if you could join us. I know that it doesn’t make up for meeting in person but at least it will give you a chance to see old and new friends and catch up with what has been going on.

Kind regards

UPDATE: Lanes Run to Brixworth Country Park with Central Area

UPDATE: Lanes Run to Brixworth Country Park with Central Area

by Andrew Parrott

Hello

Dave Sewell has re-arranged the Lanes Run from Sharnford to Brixworth for Sunday 20th September 2020. Plan would be for us all to meet up at Sharnford and follow a scenic route ending at Brixworth Country Park.

As we did last year we will gather in the car park of The Bricklayers pub from 9.30am with the run starting at 10.30am prompt.

The pub have said that they will lay on bacon and sausage baps from 9.30am and we can use their garden area if we want. Food to be paid for with order by cash or card. We will not be returning to the car park at the end of the run.

Dave will organise instructions and tulip route sheets etc to hand out on the day.

We are expecting that only limited facilities will be available at Brixworth Country Park but the toilets will be open and the cafe will be providing a takeaway service.

Schedule for day and rough route are as follows:

Country Lanes Run from Sharnford to Brixworth and back, Sunday 20th September 2020

  • Start at 10.30am sharp from Bricklayers Pub, Leicester Road, Sharnford, LE10 3PR – B4114 just east of the A5.
  • Destination is Brixworth Country Park, on A508, north of Northampton and returning to Sharnford.
  • Outward leg: 40 miles to Brixworth via Gilmorton, Walcote, Cold Ashby and the Bringtons.
  • Approximately 2 hours at Brixworth Country Park (12 noon to about 2pm).
  • Return leg: 30 miles return to Sharnford via Lamport, Maidwell, Naseby, Sibbertoft, and Gilmorton.
  • Finish about 3.30pm.

I expect that some of you will prefer to head home after Brixworth and that is perfectly fine. Alternatively, you could join the Central posse for some or all of the return leg which is also fine. However, if you do choose to do part of the return leg then I suggest that you run at or near the back and let any following cars from our group know beforehand so that they don’t follow you home!

Please can you let me know by the end of August whether you will be able to attend this event.

Kind regards

Andrew Parrott
