Lanes Run to Brixworth Country Park with Central Area – new date?

by Andrew Parrott

Hello

Dave Sewell from Central Area is looking to re-arrange the Lanes Run from Sharnford to Brixworth for a Sunday in August. Plan would be for two Areas to meet up at Sharnford and follow a scenic route ending at Brixworth Country Park. Limited facilities would be available at Brixworth Country Park but the toilets will be open and the cafe will be providing a takeaway service.

Clearly we need to adhere to any social distancing regulations in place but in principle would you like to take part in this event? If so, which Sundays in August would you prefer?

Can you let me have an answer by Wednesday next week (1st July) as I’d like to give Dave an idea of numbers for Central’s next monthly meeting.

Kind regards

Northamptonshire MASC June Zoom meeting

by Andrew Parrott

Hello

I thought last month’s Zoom meeting went well and, as we can’t meet at The Red Lion again this month, I thought that I would suggest the same for this month’s meeting.

As before, the meeting will start at 8pm this Thursday (18th June) and last for about 40 minutes. You are welcome to join in at any time.

If you would like to join me please reply to this email and I’ll send you a link before the meeting.

I look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

Best wishes

I have now created a MASC Northamptonshire Whatsapp group and would like you to join it. Please let me know if you would like to join this group and let me have your mobile number so that I can add your details.

MASC Northamtonshire Drive It Day 2020

by Andrew Parrott

Hello everyone

I hope you are all safe and well.

Today (Sunday 26th April 2020) is Drive It Day and in normal circumstances I would be looking forward to a run out in our cars. We had planned to visit Hughenden Manor, a National Trust property near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. I had decided on a start point and had a rough route planned out. Sadly we’re all stuck at home for the foreseeable future but I hope we can re-schedule this event for later in the year when restrictions are eased.

A number of people in MASC are supporting ‘Driveway Day’ as an alternative this year so please send me a photo of you and your car on your driveway so that I can incorporate this into our monthly report for inclusion in the next issue of MASCOT.

I’d also like words and pictures of anything Spridgetly you have done over the past few weeks. Maybe you’ve been tackling a job you’ve been putting off for a while or carrying out regular maintenance so that you car is ready to go once we’re finally released back into the wild.

I’ve been rebuilding Mungo’s engine but I would much rather talk about your exploits than bang on about what I’ve been doing once again. So please don’t be shy and show off your car in the lovely weather.

Best wishes

Upcoming dates for your diary – March 2020

by Andrew Parrott

Hello

Highlight is that there aren’t any as everything for the next three months has either been cancelled or postponed! Sorry.

There won’t be any monthly MASC meetings for the foreseeable future either.

It won’t surprise you that the MASC committee has decided that in the light of the current coronavirus crisis it is deemed appropriate to follow current Government advice and to limit social interaction as a club. All club activities such as monthly/weekly meets, attendance at shows and other activities where MASC is being represented as a club are to be suspended until further notice. It is felt that this is a responsible action for MASC to take to protect its members and other people in the community with whom the club come into contact with.

• * CANCELLED * Sunday 22nd March 2020: Silverstone Social Classic Car Meet at Turweston Aerodrome. SSCCM do have another event booked for the same venue on Sunday 11th October.
• * CANCELLED * 27th to 29th March 2020: Practical Classics Car & Restoration Show.
• * CANCELLED * Drive It Day 2020 is on Sunday 26th April. Hughenden Manor have said that they are closed for the forseable future. Advice from FBHVC is that the event cannot be re-scheduled but that clubs can adopt an alternative plan for the day. I particularly like their suggestion that: “there seems no reason why individual enthusiasts could not take their vehicles out for a drive on Drive it Day, waving to each other from a discrete distance, so long as that drive avoids physical social contact.” Read their full statement here: https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/news/article/driveitday2020
• * RE-SCHEDULED * Sunday 10th May 2020 – Classics at Prescott. Now moved to the weekend of 19th/20th September. More information to follow.
• * IN DOUBT * Sunday 28th June 2020: Lanes Run in conjunction with Central Area. Brixworth Country Park have said that they have been asked to suspend all public meetings for the foreseeable future. More details to follow.
• Thursday 16th July 2020: Our monthly meeting will be relocated to The Shoulder of Mutton at Calverton near Stony Stratford so that we can meet up with the Home Counties North West Area again. We will rendezvous in Towcester to leave by 7pm to travel down the A5 to the pub.
• 17th to 19th July 2020: TYRE Fest, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. We have been invited to this three day event by the MASC Younger Members. There is a tour of the Peak District on the Saturday and Rachel and I will be staying with friends in the area who run small B&B on Friday and Saturday nights. This B&B has two rooms available if others would also like to make a weekend of it. See www.stationhousebedandbreakfast.co.uk for more details.
• Sunday 2nd August 2020: Abingdon Works Show, British Motor Museum, Gaydon. Sounds like the sort of thing that we would like so we should go!

Please let me know if you would like any further details on any of the above or if you are aware of other relevant events that others might be interested in attending.

Kind regards

MASC Northamptonshire – no meeting this month

by Andrew Parrott

Dear Friends

The latest advice on the coronavirus situation is that we should avoid non-essential contact with others (especially in settings such as pubs and bars) and stop all unnecessary travel. On that basis I think that it would be prudent to cancel this month’s MASC Northamptonshire meeting which was due to be held this Thursday 19th March.

Hello

We discussed a few upcoming events at our MASC Area meeting last night and these are outlined below in addition to the ones I’ve previously mentioned.

Importantly, a destination for this year’s Drive It Day was agreed, see below.

• * UPDATE * Sunday 22nd March 2020: Silverstone Social Classic Car Meet at Turweston Aerodrome. First event of the year for SSCCM. A relaxed meeting catering for all classics. Open from 10am to 1pm. We have our own pitch so we can park together. Let me know if you’re planning to attend so that I can ensure our pitch is big enough to accommodate us all – currently it’s for five cars. I may not have my car back together in time but I will still attend the event and take our Area flag for someone to use.
• 27th to 29th March 2020: Practical Classics Car & Restoration Show. MASC will have a stand, please show your support. I will be on the stand on the Friday.
• * UPDATE * Drive It Day 2020 is on Sunday 26th April. We will be going to Hughenden Manor, a National Trust property near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. Plan is to meet up in Towcester for a 10.30am departure and then take a cross-country route to the property.
• * UPDATE * Sunday 10th May 2020 – Classics at Prescott. Full details at: http://www.classicsatprescott.com/copy-of-saturday-drive-the-hill. There are currently four of our group who will be attending and we’re aiming to travel to Prescott in convoy at least for some of the journey. If you want to attend, reserve a place for the static display via the link above. Please let me know if you’ve done this so I’ve got an idea of numbers. Hopefully we can all park together when we get to Prescott. There will be members from other MASC Areas attending including a large group from Bristol.
• Saturday/Sunday 30th/31st May 2020: Nottingham Autokarna at Wollaton Park. We’ve been invited to attend by the Notts & Derby MASC Group. We would need to pre-book.
• * UPDATE * Sunday 28th June 2020: Lanes Run in conjunction with Central Area. Plan is for two Areas to meet up at Sharnford and follow a scenic route ending at Brixworth Country Park. More details to follow.
• Sunday 5th July 2020: Silverstone Social Exclusive visit Fuzz Townshend’s Classic Oils at Bicester Heritage. SSCCM have a number of events planned for 2020 and this caught my eye. There are also two gatherings at Turweston Aerodrome (Sunday 22nd March and Sunday 11th October) together with events at various venues around the county. Check out ‘Silverstone Social Events’ on Facebook for more details.
• * NEW * Thursday 16th July 2020: Our monthly meeting will be relocated to The Shoulder of Mutton at Calverton near Stony Stratford so that we can meet up with the Home Counties North West Area again. We will rendezvous in Towcester to leave by 7pm to travel down the A5 to the pub.

Options for Drive It Day 2020 with MASC – * Please Respond *

by Andrew Parrott

Hello

As you may know Drive It Day is on Sunday 26th April and MASC actively supports this with many areas doing a run of some sort.

I’m trying to finalise our plans for Drive It Day and wanted some feedback on the kind of thing you’d like our Northamptonshire Area to do to mark the day.

Time is relatively short so I would appreciate your feedback on this by the end of January please. The options are listed below but I’m open to suggestions for alternatives.

Essentially we need to choose whether we join in on an event organised by a neighbouring MASC Area or do our own thing; to which we can invite others to take part in. Plans for Central, Heart of England and Notts & Derby are being finalised and are outlined below. I’ve listed some ideas of what we could do if we took a ‘home baked’ approach.

Please review the options below and let me know your top two ideas in order of preference. Thanks.

1. Central MASC: Run from The Tame Otter near Tamworth to Weston Park in Staffordshire.
2. Heart of England: Run from Alcester to The Canal Museum at Stoke Bruerne.
3. Notts & Derby: Run to The International Bomber Command Centre near Lincoln. Not sure where they’re starting from but we could arrange to meet them there. A ‘pretty’ route is likely to be about 80 to 90 miles each way.
4. Northamptonshire Option 1: Circular route around our patch taking in a few sights and starting and/or ending at a pub.
5. Northamptonshire Option 2: Hughenden Manor (National Trust) near High Wycombe. Country home of Benjamin Disraeli with a secret role during WWII. About 65 miles each way, £13pp entry, free for NT members.
6. Northamptonshire Option 3: Shuttleworth Collection and Swiss Garden near Biggleswade. About 70 miles each way, £20pp entry for collection and garden.
7. Northamptonshire Option 4: Hook Norton Brewery including a tour. About 40 miles, £15pp including tour.
8. Something else!

Please tell me whether you are able to join us for Drive It Day and, if so, which two of the above options you would prefer or provide some other ideas that you think others in our group would enjoy.

Kind regards

• * NEW * Sunday 9th February 2020: MG & Triumph Spares Day at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry, Warwickshire. MASC will have a stand so good chance to support the club while looking for that elusive part.
• * NEW * Sunday 22nd March 2020: Silverstone Social Classic Car Meet at Turweston Aerodrome. First event of the year for SSCCM. A relaxed meeting catering for all classics. Open from 10am to 1pm.
