North West Area Calendar for 2019

by Robert Neil McLeod

Hi All.

Steve has kindly offered to produce another calendar for 2019 for us, his request for photos  is set out below .

It’s that time of year again and if wanted I will prepare a MASC NW Area calendar for 2019.
It will be for self printing however I would ask if you could request if any members would provide me with a single photograph of either their own car, another member or group of members cars or ‘work in progress’ from which I can pick suitable pictures.
Some details about photograph for use in captions would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Steve <troutbeckkeils@gmail.com>

Ball type clutch thrust bearings

by Robert Neil McLeod

I have recently supplied thrust bearings to a couple of our members and have also had a request for a 1098 type but I am running short of usable carriers and would ask if you could put out a request to NW Area members for any previously used items that could be converted.
I have a particular need for the 948 type but although if not available to recycle I will need to buy some new ones from Moss as it is not readily practical to make from solid although I am investigating further however I am not prepared to use a welded assembly in such a vulnerable location !
Thanks
Steve

Message from Andy Ainsworth( Race Midget)

by Robert Neil McLeod

Hi All.

Andy has sent me this email , I have asked him if I can share it with you and hopefully fine a club member to finish the car that means so much to him.

Just wanted to keep in touch.Apologies for absence, really wanted to be at last meeting I don’t know where Ian gets these interesting people from.He certainly has some good contacts, bet I missed a good night would have been really good in particular to see what Spridget racing photos he had.

Wanted to let you know that after weeks of soul searching and with a heavy heart (trying to build the suspense up now !) I have decided to sell the race Midget.

I have basically not done a thing to it now for at least 6 months and have lost all interest .I will not race it due to lack of finance, time and I have to admit bottle so even if I did carry it through what would I do with it ? To be honest Neil I was involved in an accident in the works van a while ago and don’t enjoy driving as much as I used to and can’t work up any enthusiasm to use it on the road.

I’ve only emailed Paul Goodman (he is Chairman of MG Car Club and runs the racing championship)at the minute as I know he has people approaching him for suitable cars and would rather it go to an enthusiast via the MGCC or MASC rather than some fool who knows nothing about them buying it on Ebay for peanuts (if they turn up!).

Feel a bit odd Neil in that MGs have been a big part of my life but now is the time to move on.Although my wife has put absolutely no pressure on me regarding this (she has been very patient) another thing is that we are considering a house move and unfortunately all the properties that we can afford that give us a quirky character countryside or coastal cottage with views don’t always give sufficient garage space.

I don’t know if any of MASC NW would be interested but if you could put word around I would be grateful. It is the very good basis of a hillclimb or sprint car quite easily. It has been featured in MASCOT and MG Enthusiast Magazine March 2018 but can obviously forward photos to anyone interested. There is also a photo of it in Chris Harveys book Spridgets.

Cheers for now, will keep in touch.

Regards

Andy Ainsworth

Hi All. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunny but colds day we have has of late, giving us a last chance to get our cars out before bedding down for the winter.

Our next club night , Ian Jones has arranged for us a talk & photographic show to given by Alan Cox, a Motor sports Photographer, Racing at Oulton Park & some Grands Prix from the 80s , with a few Midget & Sprites, he will all so provide commentary.

So if we could start our meeting that night at the slightly earlier time of 7-30pm , as we have a few things to talk about and I would like to start Alans talk about 8pm. Then we may also have time later for any chat that members would like to have.

I will remind you again just before the meeting , but if you could make a note in your diary of this start time . Thanks.

Halloween Run Lunch

by Robert Neil McLeod

Hi All.

The Farmers Arms @ Heskin. that we are stopping at for the late lunch after the Halloween Run. Some of you have said you have had a problem with seeing the menu. The pub has recently changed hands and the website is being changed and menu is not on there as yet . We are intalks with the new landlady and all is well , we might even give our food order in just before we leave on the run, as the pub is very near to Park Hall Hotel.

Hope that make things clear, as thing change we will keep you informed.

Cheers Neil
